Private & Group Lessons
Far Fetched Tales Dog Training provides instruction of how to train your dog so that owners can enjoy years of traveling and companionship from their pets. Dogs depend on their owners to be leaders, to teach them proper behavior, and to manage situations – not just when the dogs are puppies, but throughout their lives. Private lessons can be purchased by the hour or by the package.

Step One of Training:
A.K.C. All S.T.A.R. Puppy - Puppies 2 to 12 months.
Welcome to the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program!
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class.
The Benefits of Training:
Training classes teach you how to best communicate with your puppy. Organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program. If there are only 3 dogs enrolled we will keep the registration open until the minimum of 4 dogs is met. 6 week course
Step Two of Training:
Basic Obedience and Manners For Dogs
The dog training “come” command is probably the most important obedience command you will ever teach your dog. At some point in time, you will no doubt rely on it to guide your dog away from serious danger. Loose leash walking, socialization, and basic obedience commands will be covered. Dogs will be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing overstimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal, or avoidance behavior. How to meet and greet other dogs. Introduction to tricks and games to play with your dog. If there are only 3 dogs enrolled we will keep the registration open until the minimum of 4 dogs is met. 6 week course
Step Three of Training:
Before taking the Canine Good Citizen test, owners will sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge. We believe that responsible dog ownership is a key part of the CGC concept and by signing the pledge, owners agree to take care of their dog’s health needs, safety, exercise, training and quality of life. Owners also agree to show responsibility by doing things such as cleaning up after their dogs in public places and never letting dogs infringe on the rights of others. After signing the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge, owners and their dogs are ready to take the CGC Test.
A.K.C. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN ® CERTIFICATION TEST
All breeds of dogs (mixed or purebred) who have been trained to obey basic obedience commands and who can remain calm when faced with distracting situations in public places, are welcome to try to earn a Canine Good Citizen ® Certificate.
Your dog will be tested on ten skills outlined in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen ® program. These skills demonstrate her responses to basic obedience commands, and indicate whether she will behave in a well-mannered way when out in public and in the midst of distractions.
Students who pass all ten parts of the test will receive the paperwork needed to obtain their official certificate from the American Kennel Club.*Passing students also may purchase a collar tag or an embroidered patch (to sew on a jacket — or your dog’s bandana!). We send a list of all dogs who earn their Canine Good Citizen ® Certificates to the American Kennel Club in New York, to be recorded officially on your dog’s record.
This certification program as offered as a 6-week class in order to allow for practice on skills if needed. However, some dogs may be able to pass all ten skills at the first meeting. If there are some skills you don’t pass during the 9-week session, your Evaluator can advise you what to work on at home to prepare for passing the remaining skills to earn your certificate. You may then re-test on a later testing date.
*PLEASE NOTE: If your dog passes all ten skills, your evaluator will provide you with the testing paperwork and other information necessary to receive your Certificate and Title from the American Kennel Club. However students are responsible for completing the process by sending all required paperwork to the AKC, along with additional fees payable directly to the AKC.
*Dogs entering the class should already demonstrate the ability to respond to the basic cues of sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, and coming when called. A very important component to the CGC program is responsible dog ownership. At the CGC test you will be asked to sign the “Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge” before you and your dog go through the test. For classes and the test you will need to wear closed toe shoes (tennis shoes are good) due to practices of right and left hand turns, and u-turns.
If there are only 3 dogs enrolled we will keep the registration open until the minimum of 4 dogs is met.
6 Week Course – Testing on the 7th week.
